Year 8 Geography Clean Up Australia Day

Once again the Year 8 Geography classes participated in the Clean Up Australia Day 'Schools Clean Up Day'. We spent time picking up rubbish around our school in an effort to keep it beautiful, and stop our litter from ending up in the Yass River, and ultimately out at sea. Each year we put on our hats and gloves and pick up more rubbish than we expect, and are reminded that all the plastic we wrap our food in at lunch time lasts for years and years, and can cause great harm to the environment. We are also reminded that putting our rubbish in... Read more

How we communicate with parents and students

Open communication between the school, home and the community is our ideal at Yass High School. All school community members are urged to use appropriate communication channels to keep each other informed of matters related to students and learning. Lack of time is often an issue in keeping communication channels open on a busy school day so patience is sometimes necessary. The other inhibiting factor to good communication is rumour and gossip: if what you hear sounds odd please contact the school for clarification.

Contacting the school

  • All contact with the school should be through the Front Office.

  • Communication is enhanced by contacting the relevant person. A list of ‘key contacts' is provided above

  • The Deputy Principal is responsible for daily operations, student welfare, discipline and attendance.

  • The Principal is responsible for overall management of the school including teaching and learning, staffing, community partnerships, student enrolment, and policy and planning.

  • Head Teachers are responsible for teaching and learning in allocated areas.

  • For progress reports please contact the Year Adviser.

  • For serious welfare concerns, please make an appointment to see the Counsellor.

Contacting Students

  • Messages will be conveyed if it is of an urgent or serious nature. Please restrict requests made of the office staff.

  • A contact /medical card is required for each student each year.

Channels of Communication

  • We have a very informative website www.yass-h.school.nsw.edu.au

  • Twitter is used to give immediate and regular updates of school achievements and events @YassHighSchool

  • A regular bulletin (InTouch) containing news of student achievement and the forthcoming calendar is sent home before P&C meetings and is emailed to each student.

  • It is recommended that students purchase a diary to record homework and assist them in organising their day.

  • Parents may request a profile of their student's work (progressive report), at any time through the relevant year adviser.

  • Warnings about incomplete assignments and students at risk are provided in writing.

  • If parents supply a mobile phone number the school can contact them via sms regarding student attendance. Please contact the school to arrange this.

Parent Teacher Night

  • A Parent Teacher night is held at the beginning of Term 3 to allow discussion following semester 1 reporting.
